MADRID Postcard Set
DID YOU KNOW?
The tower is generally known as the "Pirulí" in Madrid, given the similarity between the tower and a particular type of lollipop of conical shape very popular in Spain in the eighties.
CASA DE LA PANADERIA
The most prominent building on the Plaza Mayor is the Casa de la Panaderia (baker's guilt). It was completed as early as 1590 before the square was even laid out.
ESTACION DE ATOCHA
In 1992, the original terminal converted into a concourse with shops, coffees, and a nightclub. The concourse has been given a new function, this time a stunning 4,000 m² covered tropical botanical garden containing 400 different species, with a total of over 7,000 plants. Also, the Cervantes train travels from Athoca station to Alcalá de Henares, where the author of Don Quixote was born.
PALACIO DE CRISTAL
Designed by Ricardo Velázquez Bosco, the project was inspired by Paxton’s Crystal Palace. It was originally planned as a gigantic greenhouse to contain tropical plants but today it is used for exhibitions.
It was originally the headquarters of the Spanish postal service as well as home to the Postal and Telegraphic Museum until 2007 since then it becomes Madrid City Hall.
